New Mutants #49

Don't judge a cover by the book. This cover is awesome. The issue... not so much. Really did NOT like this story/arc playing out. Doug becomes so powerful, as Douglock, he basically reinvents Temporal Mechanics 101 just to suit this story. Huh, move over Andy Macguire. Yanking dead corpses from the past with spiritual umbilical cords and rewriting alternate worlds out of existence - not to mention completely control Earth and the fabric of reality. Unfortunately, the whole threat and threat resolution went beyond comic book crazy for me. And then the Cosmic Reset segue was too "That's it, we're back in Kansas?!". The inside art/colors did not really help.

The whole team, save Dani, were boring and unproductive. Especially disappointing was how much Warlock was downplayed here. Didn't care that his being hampered by his own tech read more matter of fact than of interest. Bad showings all around. At least Silver Surfer scored a cameo in an X-book - but don't blink.

It felt too convenient that Dani's Valkyrior Power was plot device activated here. So, she has the ability to free transmoded souls with her (special?)sword: hmmm... remind me where she was when X-Force needed to take out the Transmode Council?! Are any of them still around after Selene's death? Hey, when they cancel New Mutants, she could join one of the new X-Forces to take care of all the undead out there whether transmoded or not.

Don't know why Dani kissed Doug after JUST seeing where THAT road lead him. (Yeah, okay, moral support - let's hope Doug sees it that way since he forgot everything.)

Oh well, maybe the anniversary #50 will be a big deal. Anyone excited about it?

I would buy this book JUST for the cover. That is one of the best covers I've seen in a long time!

And a lean, silent figure slowly fades into the gathering darkness, aware at last that in this world, with great power there must also come -- great responsibility!
