Guardians of the Galaxy 013
Part 6 of 6 in The Trial Of Jean Grey!
was the first book to read this week! And it was well worth it. As vomitous that it is that the Original X-men are still casually staying in this time period Marvel is doing intriguing things with them here! Well, 2/5ths of them. And there's Young Bobby bringing the only welcome touch of humour to the X-verse (c'mon, Rockslide, pick up your game!). So, make it 3/5ths. Hank and Warren do nothing. Laura talks pedicures with Drax.
The art was wonderful! Ditto the cover. The intergalact beacon/walkie talkie and brackets in Jean's shaming Gladiator are the only two nitpicks that come to mind.
Scott's posturing was kind of silly (considering he is a stranger to all the backup he threatened) and moot (considering his decision at the end). However his part his this conclusion was genuinely surprising and interesting.
Young Jean Grey is even more interesting after the final verdict and all. Jean's closing argurments were well said - even if they are in some ways subjective. The abruptness of the ending of it all makes perfect sense 'cuz the people (or person) in power make the rules and write the history. IN THIS CASE the book's controversial direction NOW morphs into 2 added new directions that will undoubtedly bring on more temporal headaches - and yet for a change feels like there is potential for new and fun to it.
Kitty has some decent dialogue again and gets an very interesting crush. She also promptly and properly recants her hypocritical outburst to deny some father/son bonding. Hmm, this should put aside the speculation whether Old Scott knows about Corsair's unexplained return or not. Now the question is will he allow it, or start remembering it for that matter.
The Guardians take a back seat, once again, in their own title. This story should have been told completely in X-books only but they score the rights to host this Event, likely, in hopes of pulling in the Legions of X-Fans to go check out their movie. Smooth move, Marketing. To be fair, each and every one of the title cast did score single lines of fair/cute characterization which was more than all the Starjammers can claim. Even Angela scores a curious kindred kind of look from 'Superjean'.
I miss Dad and Dan.
