I liked it.
It had a solid story and even gave us scary Sentinels. Something that the comics for a long times never did.

Getting wiped out by the future sentinels or Magneto going to kill the President of the United States wasn't climatic enough for you?

I guess there is no pleasing some people.

I have to admit, I liked the revamped Sentinels. But they showed us the Sentinels killing the X-Men twice(at the beginning, and then again at the end). And Magneto's attempt to kill the President wasn't much of anything. He levitated a stadium around the White House, had a very brief battle with Beast and Wolverine, and then....did a lot of talking with Mystique and Charles. Now compare that to what the original post pointed out about Winter Soldier and the Avengers. How does this new X-movie compare? The movie was definitely of poor quality.

What got me most, aside from McEvoy's maudlin wimpering throughout the film, was the improper use of mutants' powers. Kitty isn't a telepath, nor does she have time shifting powers. Magneto can't levitate concrete, and if he was only using the support beams, then the concrete should have crumbled. Quicksilver has super speed, WHEN HE'S RUNNING. The minute he stops running, he's no longer at super speed, so he couldn't have re-arranged people during combat(where the idea was obviously stolen from Hiro's time-freezing on Heroes). Hopefully, Singer won't be around for the next film.
