    Maybe it's just due to comics having more age ranges available for the characters these days?

    Used to be:
    - baby, kid, teenager, adult, octogenarian

    We might have gotten a few more in the range between adult and octogenarian! \:\)

Don't know about that - sometimes it looks more like they're getting rid of "octogenarian" characters either by de-aging them (Magneto, Mystique) or killing them off (Charles Xavier, Destiny). ;\-\) Also note how much younger J. Jonah Jameson (originally a contemporary of Captain America etc.) became after One More Day (suddenly readers were treated to J.J.J. Senior, the superfluous Gary Stu) and how Aunt May seems to be getting a decade or two younger with every movie reiteration...
