Now some of you will instantly judge my following statement as homophobic and feel free to do so. But I was fine when the young alternate universe Ice-Man was revealed to be gay. I would have happily collected a NorthStar book, as he is one of my favorite Alpha Flight characters. And I'd have been thrilled to see Anole get more time in the spotlight. However, I am totally against 616 Ice-Man being changed into a gay character. He was my one of my favorite characters until he was changed into being gay for shock value, despite decades of being depicted as straight. I hate when a character's history is totally ignored just to suit a writer's whim. I am thrilled the book is being canceled.

I don't think disliking the decision to turn Iceman gay is homophobic. He wasn't implied to be one. (except I always sort of thought Lobdell was implying that during his run...the way he wrote Bobby's dad in particular led me to think that)

If you had called him a faggot or went off on a spiel about christian values then maybe you would be homophobic. But you're free to dislike stuff.

Like I'm fine with Iceman being gay but I really didn't like Rictor and Shatterstar becoming a couple. They had a really great friendship and I was little annoyed that because they were close friends they were just made gay. Why can't guys be close friends without being gay?

I agree with you about Shatterstar and Rictor. Frankly, I think what was a really good relationship is now completely ruined because of this. A solid friendship is better than a romantic relationship, imo.
