Cannonball was supposed to be the Connor/Duncan. There was also no contest or grand prize as there was in Highlander. There was no "there can be only one." It was just a bunch of immortal guys doing nothing really.

Yeah to me they never really fleshed out if they had a goal they were working towards.

Personally I didn't mind them being Highlander ripoffs but take away the immortality and most of them didn't have much. You had Apocalypse, Cannonball and Selene who were shoe horned in, 6 nobodies and Gideon who was an External with some potential (he pwned the New Warriors that one time...and I'm personally horrified that my spell check did not balk at pwned being a word)

Gideon was the only good one not counting Sam, Selene and Apocalypse (and maybe a couple of them have been retconned out of being externals). Candra, Saul, Absalom, Burke, Nicodemus and Crule sucked. But part of that is that most were killed off before being fleshed out.
