And Kid Krakoa, who I really think is just one of his pieces, is missing since Wolverine & the X-Men.

That is an awesome fix to the beyond comic book CRAZINESS of an island having a kid. Wasn't he revealed to be an island in some ocean that Quire has used as a retreat during his turn in that last Thor arc about Dark Phoenix/Shi'ar Gods?

My pet theory is that Krakoa is an actual human mutant. Perhaps even a human mutant family that have a sort of gestalt life, hive mind, etc.

Once upon a time, the Living Monolith grew into planetoid status and actually grew flora. I imagine Krakoa is much like him.

Krakoa seems to make buds of itself to reproduce. We saw one child, called Vega Superior, and Kid Krakoa was grown in the lab of one of the Hellfire Brats.

There were also multiple smaller Krakoas in the Young X-Men series that were disturbing a Brazilian construction site.
