I really disliked the "Psi-War" arc. Not only did it fall flat, but just sidelined Betsy. There was no other point to it, when it made claims of being this major thing.

I think I originally read this before I had much knowledge of the Shadow King. I liked his "voice" in this story. I thought it was fun. And the idea of bringing in African folk-lore was a cool new take for me at the time. I do wish Kelly had followed up with something interesting with Psylocke after this story. It made fun of her, exposed her self-doubt, then took away her telepathy. Then moved on to something new.

Shadow King as Amahl Farouk, an evil mutant that influenced Xavier into creating X-Men has importance for me, not multiversal evil entity or African god. The original Psi-War story, Farouk vs Xavier, felt bigger. At the time, I would refer to it more as a "backstreet brawl." Betsy capturing him in her mind felt like an inadequate ending.

City of Heroes is BACK!
